what is the best type to use? what type would you reccomend?
how long and what temp. should the oven be at?
can you make the clay at home? what recipe?

I've never baked clay before! What I would do, is buy lots of different types of clay, and read some of the instuctions on them. Or you could also buy some kind of gift making guide that has cool crafts you could do with clay in it. Either of these should work. Good luck!

If you buy clay at a craft store, it comes with instructions. Or if you find a website with a recipe, it will also tell you whether to bake it, and for how long.
