If so do you find them to be comforting in contrast to much current entertainmemt? Admittedly this could be an "age" thing, but I know others my age who live on a steady diet of media sex and violence and can't see anything negative about it. This has probably been asked before but I'd appreciate your input. Thanks.

Live on the West coast and get TV Land and TCM. Years back I watched some soaps, but now they are trash.

I'm not that big on watching TV...but I do enjoy I Love Lucy.

There is so much true trash on television...REAL trash....

I enjoy a few shows like Shark, most of the Law and Order, the Sopranos, CSI, etc and some of the programs on A & E and History channel.

My true enjoyment is Turner Classic Movies.....

Frankly, I would rather read.....

I couldn't stand the Honeymooners at all, and Lucy only in small doses. I have never understood what any one saw in the Three Stodge's, or Jerry Lewis, Abbot and Costello, Sanford and Son All in the Family and all the others in that genre. I feel the same way about the garbage on TV now. The cartoons geared for adults? What an insult. I guess that's why I could live with out a TV at all. Don't touch the music though then we'll fight. I do watch some to be honest but there again I am not one to worry if I miss an week. The ones I watch are NCIS, and the CSI's.

Yes, I love the classic from the late 30' through the 50's. They do give me a sense of comfort, when I need to get away from the world we live in today. I like to watch old movies mostly on Turner Classics. They were more limited in what they could say and do and so the plot seemed to be more complex. I will say that there have been some incredible movies coming out in the last several years, but they have violence or language you don't find in the classics.

Yes, I watched I Love Lucy earlier. I watch a lot of the old shows on TV Land, Green Acres and the Jeffersons are a couple of my favorites. I can say most of the lines on Andy Griffith along with the Mayberry folk. We also watch 'Little House on the Prairie' weekdays on Hallmark. Those shows take me to a sweeter, simpler time. We need more wholesome shows like these now.

Right now we are on an old western kick. Bonanza, Rifleman, etc. I love the old shows alot better than the new ones. I mean Kitty was a madam and there were shootouts.....lots of scenes were shot in the bars......but it's not the same. It's not blood and gore and in your face the whole time. I think they carefully knew how to allude to things without showing everything. I loved the old horror shows. It's not what they showed that scared you....it's what they left for you to fill in with your own imagination that did.

I still watch Mayberry RFD all the time. Perry Mason etc. As far as newer stuff.....anything I like never lasts very long.

Anyone a fan of Lost in Space? Had a little treat the other day. I didn't know Billy Mumy (the little kid) was an acomplished musician and song writer......I loved his stuff!

I think that's why I watch some of them. Because of the nostalgia thing. Some though I used to watch like Andy Griffith, I love Lucy, etc..I burned out on, a long time ago. Later ones like Cheers & Seinfeld I continue to watch even though I've seen each episode a dozen times or more.

I don't know about seniors, but I'm 29 and love Lucy. Lots of my friends watch it too. We also love All in the Family. I think its kind of amusing that you view today's shows as a steady diet of media sex and violence, when I can't even watch my favorite cartoons anymore because they are too vulgor by today's standards..... What happened to Betty Boop? Popeye is still ok, but he hasn't been the same since he lost the pipe... And Tom and Jerry ...too violent by today's standards.

Yes, whenever possible, I try to watch that type of show. I have no time for the reality-based TV shows, or anything that is violent, etc. I particularly love any and all of Lucy's series of TV shows: I Love Lucy, The Lucy Show, Here's Lucy, and her final series, Life with Lucy.

Totally! I have always loved the "older" shows! They are classic and they will never die! I liked them when I was a little girl! One of my faves is Lucy. I like Green acres,Mr.Ed,Dobbie Gillis,Andy Griffith,Patty Duke show,My 3 sons,Taxi,Laverne and Shirley,Mary Tyler Moore, and Dick Van Dyke. They are funny and entertaining without all the violence and Sexual references. There is a channel that play older shows at night and I watch them all the time! Check your cable line up and look for Nick at Night! I hope I answered your question! Take care and Have a nice day!

I am in my mid 50's and my fiance is in her mid 40's. We both enjoy watching Lucy. In fact, we own the entire Lucy collection on DVD. My mother also loved watching Lucy.

Speaking of nostalgia, I also own the following DVD's:
- all 28 Blondie movies
- the Dean Martin Variety Show collection
- the 39 half hour Honeymooners episodes
- various episodes of Grouch Marx's "You Bet Your Life", Colgate Comedy Hour, Milton Berle show, Four Star Playhouse, One Step Beyond, Bonanza, Life with Elizabeth, Dangerous Assignment, Andy Griffith Show, Trouble with Father, Mr & Mrs North, Public Defender, Richard Diamond, Boston Blackie

Generally speaking, I believe that today's television shows and movies, with their explicit special effects and minimal censorship, seem to have desensitized the current generation. There are exceptions to this, but they are in a small minority along with me. I guess that is why I enjoy the older programs.

As for today's generation, I wonder what their children and grandchildren will be saying about them in 20 or 30 years?
