Yes, this is what I do, and I start pressing and nagging and "why didn't you call, where were you, what happened, I was worried, you liar etc.etc..." and.... there we have the worst case scenario coming true!!

I always wait a little while and if I still don't hear from them, then yeah, I start thinking of what could have happened to them.
