I don't know.

What?

I think what everyone needs to understand about people with differing political views is that they ALL love their country. People just have different ideas as to what they feel is best for their home. I think that is why people get so passionate about politics and such (Now, isn't "passionate" a more decent thing to say? Makes one look like they take the high road instead of just wanting to appeal to the lowest common denominator by using vicious words like "irrational". It really isn't necessary to be vile to get across ones point, you know.....I'm just sayin')

Just because people disagree with you doesn't make them irrational...nor should they call YOU irrational just because you disagree with them....see? Doesn't everyone feel better without all these hateful accusations being thrown around.......or maybe not? Sometimes people just like to argue and fight and aren't happy being content with themselves and their own values. My Mother and father raised me better than that.

So, I guess since they disagree with you, they are irrational.

Wow.

I hope when I break it down that simply, it doesn't shock you too much.

I am not a liberal, at least in the political sense. Having said that, the irrational behavior comes from frustration as to the total incompetence of our federal and local governments. This is true of both party's. Liberals I do believe can be democratic, and or republican. Now when you define further the radicals are the neo-cons and the far-leftist. WHY DON'T SOME PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE???

Oh goody, an ubercon troll. Extremism is never a good thing. Maybe if you move to the center what seems irrational to you now will seem quite sane and rational then.

We get irrational when we think of all the poor folks in the US living with no health insurance in abject poverty and working 50+ hours per week with only 2 weeks vacation per year (or less) who are voting republican because they are afraid that someone with even less than they have might get something for free... It's kinda funny really.

Those silly liberals in Europe have national health care, 5-8 weeks of paid vacation, state funded tuition and in many cases a 35 hour work week with unlimited time off for illness at full pay. And somehow the Euro is worth 1 1/2 times what a dollar is.

the main reason is over 40 yrs. of public education.the system has been dumbed down to create a population of functional morons better known as democrat voters ,dependent on big gov.their thought process is guided by emotion, not their brain.the rational democrat party of JFK is long gone.today they would be condemned as conservatives.

I'm guessing the same things that make a person from any other country or part of the political spectrum irrational. Although this is more of a psychological question than a political one.

Liberals got so used to government hand outs, that they freak out when it could potentially end.

Most of the lunatic ranting I see here is decidely conservative in nature....nuking iran, hating jews, blacks, etc.

Traditional liberal thought comes from the Age of Reason, so naturally if you are nuts, nothing a rational person says will make much sense to you.

It's like you're the drunk and we're trying to sober you up.

Doesn't work.

I mean, consider your heroes----Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Coulter---these people would be laughed out of any serious intellectual discussion. They know this, of course, and thus appeal to the irrational in people.

The persistence in conservative clinging to outdated views of social norms, irresponsible government spending on military adventures and the weird pseudo-religious political ideologies of the evangelical Christian movement have all contributed to American-liberal irrationality.
