It's not exactly good for the car. Engaging the starter while the engine is running causes the bendix in the starter to engage a moving flywheel. This can (in a worst case scenario) chip teeth off of the starter or the flywheel. Typically it won't cause any damage, but the sound is horrible.

Its feasible that the timing can get screwed up. If the automobile has issues beginning without the distant, it rather is recommended to look into having the starter checked. If its a ninety 9 and the starter hasnt ever been replaced you are able to wager its nearing the top of its existence. If it starts off only large with a key, and basically has subject with the distant, its time to have that device checked. distant starters, particularly after industry ones, dont have an particularly long existence span, maximum are basically coated for a 365 days by ability of the producer. the two way they only dont final long. If its working right, the wires may be shorting out and want replaced. only have it looked at. I cant think of it seizing the engine, or ruining the motor vehicle till it have been heavily malfunctioning. yet i will work out the timming getting thrown from it not working right.

Get rid of the remote starter option on the vehicle. Repetively doing that will destroy the starter and the flywheel. Both of which are very expensive, and since its operator error it will not be covered by warranty. So I'd do the easiest thing in the world, remove the remote starter. I mean really is your wife that lazy to not walk outside put the key in and start the car? I've been doing that for years, and haven't had a single incident of trying to restart a vehicle that's already running.

Don't let your wife drive anymore if she can't tell the vehicle is already running.

Keep the car, but get a new wife. It is important to pick one that has a little common sense and can tell when the car is running and when it isn't.

omg you guys are so mean...some women dont know what the hell a flywheel or starter is...not their fault they're not mechanically inclined

but just in case a girl reads this...always check your RPMs before you turn the key if you think it may be running

No RPMs = not running

well yeah its most likely your starter engaging on the motor since it gives the vehicle a heavy load it shuts the motor off if left on for long.

Don't do that, you'll break something expensive. Learn to turn it to run without cranking it.
