Why do we choose to forgive those who lie, cheat and break our hearts? Why would someone want to be with a partner who did this to them?

Because we are human.

Every human lies at some point.

Every human cheats at something...be it at marriage or cutting in line or not giving back the extra change given to them.

Every human breaks someones heart, just as they have had their heart broken.

No one wants to be with someone that does these things. However, it is impossible to be perfect. Being able to forgive is the most human part of being human.

Now, if one person consistently lied, cheated, and couldn't care less about breaking hearts then you should not be with them. It is one thing to be human, and quite another to be a human sacrifice.

Well sweetie, before I met my now ex, people only got one chance to lie, cheat or break my heart, some of them never even got that chance before I left them. Usually I would leave them first. But when I got the one who is my ex now, during our relationship, I forgave him for a lot of the things that he did because I loved him. When you love someone it isn't easy for you to just say "F*** you!!! Get the hell out of my life." You want to forgive them because again, you love them. Though yes, if someone does lie to you, which I'm sure that he didn't, no you shouldn't be with them. But when you love them you don't see it like that, you see it as another milestone in the relationship. It's better to forgive than to just leave, or that's what I thought at the time. There were sometimes when I lied to him, and broke my promises so I can't blame him for everything or even hold that against him. But you should always forgive the people you love in general, or else you'll never learn that gift, and you won't reap the benefits. Forgiveness is always better than bitterness. It takes you farther.

I'm going through this same situation as we speak. In my case- I took the lies because I wasn't ready to move on yet. I still saw all the things I fell in love with and was ok with waiting to see if we could make it through this awful time. The thought of trying to meet someone new kinda sucks too and who wants to be alone? But, when your heart has had enough it will let you know, it may still hurt to let go but if your heart has had enough, that's all there is to it. Good Luck.

As far as I am concerned i wouldnt want to be with someone that lied or cheated on me.
I think some people choose to let their partners get away with stuff like this because they themselves are too scared to be alone and think if this person didn't want me who else will?
So they stay with the one they know as apposed to trying to find someone that is worthy of them.

because we want to believe they can change. And SOME DO, but others dont. All human beings want hope, and by forgiving it shows we still have hope. Even though that hope sometimes gets squashed. Neverless, we (or atleast some of us) learn from having too much hope. And the nxt time around we have a tougher wall built up, but that's the way humans work.

anyways hope this answers your question! =]

i have always asked myself that until i was eventyally in the same situation, then again, i still ask myself every day why i put up with a life that i NEVER wanted for me. i am so far away from happy and lost focus on how to get there again.
back to your question, in my case, i couldnt believe what has happened, i hoped we would make it, hoped he didnt do the things he did, well...all hope is gone and i cant deal with me being such a failure for putting all my love into this person.

You should forgive for your own well being. But if you can't then move on from that person, cut them out of your life if that's the only way to heal.

I think it's because in the end, we wish in our hearts that the person will see the light, and come out and say straight forward that they love us!
:)
But unfortuatly that never happens in realy life, only in movies.

Because people are desperately afraid of being alone. Because people have no pride. Because they are in love with the other. Because they fear change. Because they can't afford to make it alone.
