Heck yeah it's Ron Francis! Vastly overshadowed by fan/media apathy in Hartford, Mario Lemieux (and the huge spectre of said legend when he sat out/retired) in Pittsburgh, and more fan/media apathy in Carolina, Francis was damned great! This guy is among the top ten NHL scorers of all time, a two time Selke winner and key member of two Stanley Cup teams (plus one finalist), as well as a first ballot Hall Of Famer. On top of that, the man had the uncanny ability to feed daring wingers amazing passes, whether it was Luc Robitaille, Jaromir Jagr, Sami Kapenen, or some of the unheralded players who lined up alongside him in Hartford, Pittsburgh, Carolina, or Toronto. If there is ever an "all Underrated Team", then Francis is forever the captain!

Esa Tikanen was a key member of the Oilers as a shut-down forward/shadow and didn't always get that much credit.
The thing with underrated players is if they were that good, they got their limelight. Not many in hockey circles think that Francis was not great. Bossy is always mentioned among the all-time best, so is Dionne.
According to Brett Hull, it is Adam Oates but I don't buy that either.
I don't think anyone can mention one player who really didn't get his due.
Glen Anderson was a HOF snub so some might say him I guess. Niewendyk, Andreychuk and Tim Kerr were all guys that sometimes went unnoticed I guess but they were what they were.
Francis was inducted to the HOF so he got his due.

Francis is not a bad choice, but as was already mentioned, he got his due place in the Hall. I'd have to go with John Madden of the Devils. He always plays against the opposing top line and has a knack for shutting them down. He has also led the league in short-handed goals and gets a lot of time on the PK.

Dale Hunter.
Francis is in the HOF.
Dale Hunter belongs in, but isn't.
Most people know he is #2 all time in PIMs,
but how about more career points than:
Pat LaFontaine
Maurice Richard
Peter Forsberg
Eric Lindros
Francis is great, and most hockey fans know it.
Dale Hunter has a bad rap for being a dirty player, but as he said at his retirement, he wasn't the most talented guy, he just played hard every shift. His numbers are much higher than most people expect them to be.

Igor Larionov- He was a fantastic player but wasn't given the recognition he should have because he played most of his prime years in Russia. He really deserves to be in the HOF.

Stephane Robidas, he hasn't scored a goal in 2 whole seasons, but he's one of the Stars, defensive "stars", he makes great defensive plays, but really doesn't get a reward for except for this answer. Kinda like the Loch Ness Monster, you know he's there, but you just don't see him.
