I would really like to start one but Im not sure how. I know Yahoo!Answers is one but, I want soemthing more. For example, I want to be in the local newspaper but I'm not sure how to do that. Or get one in my school, and yet again Im not sure how to do that either. People who are down, I would go talk to them and help, and they say i give great advice, and most of the time its my friends but, there are times random people ask me. Please help!!! And thank you so much for using up your time to do so.

Dear Liviy94: You are doing it already. You are already lifting the spirits of the depressed and downhearted with your uplifting messages. If you need to do more, go to the local newspaper and apply for a column. The most they can say is no. But you have to remember you have a lot of friends and fans on Yahoo and we support you 100%.

Well, let me start by giving you some advice.

I'm 64 years old, and have been in publishing, marketing, advertising and commercial printing all my life. Now a retired newspaper publisher (and formerly with USA TODAY), I would recommend that you focus on a specific area of expertise. These 'general' advice columns are tedious, and often unbearable.

Send some of your best work to area newspaper editors to see if you can generate any interest. If not, why not make a mass mailing to newspaper editors across the country and sell your column paper-by-paper? Don't forget to include community newspapers (in fact, they'll be your best prospects) that are published weekly or monthly. I have a friend, for example, that writes a travel article. He visits a place, writes a column, then sells the same column to as many as two dozen different newspapers. His charges range from $15 to as much as $150 for newspapers with larger circulations.

Hone in on what your 'advice' is going to be about. Assuming you're a young high school or college student, you might want to "specialize" in areas that have to do with clothes; dating; reading; entertainment, or social issues at school. But I would strongly urge that you make your column 'unique' by focusing on one issue instead of trying to be "all things to all people". Once you gain any kind of respectable following, you might be able to expand your horizons a little bit. Good luck! -RKO- 11/24/07

Frist you should write up what you want to do in a form of a letter then print out tons and go to all the newspapers and / or the school explane to them and give them a letter they might want proff that you can do it and I dont think many papers would go for it but cant hurt to ask. however the school would proble exept it if they saw you where serouse. Then you can set up a specilal email and have people email and send you letters about there problems and all that. GOOD LUCK!!!

you need to always remember that if you put your self up as an advice columnist, what you may say could influence peoples lives, so never give advice , but always share your experiences that would be relevant to the persons situation and always emphasize thats this is the way you handled the situation and this is the way it resulted , and it may not work out the same for the person you are sharing your experience with.
