For a while Iran (not Iraq) seemed to be on verge of creating big problems for the now candidates. Then people started to talk about the ECONOMY, thinking burst bubble of real estate and mortgages would do us in. But unless I'm totally wrong IMMIGRATION will be the biggest issue. And I predict it could already have ruined HILLARY CLINTON'S aspirations.

I would say illegal immigration, then Iran (and national security) The economy will become as much of an issue as the media exagerates it to be. For example, from your words, the "burst bubble of real estate" which is nothing of the sort. It is amazing that the media puts forth that the real estate market is so bad, and we are on target to have the 4th highest number of homes sold in American history - this year!

The mortgages that the media reports record foreclosures where nation wide, they are only up 3.2% over last year, and only 1.1% over the record set in the 80's.

The reality is that this is a GREAT time to buy a home in America. When the values go flat or negative (which negative has only hit a few large markets) it is ALWAYS followed by a spike upward. I have bought 4 rental properties in the last 9 months, and plan to continue buying until the spike upward, then I will decide my investment strategy depending on how much it increases.

In other words, do not let the media warp your sense of what is going on. Record low unemployment and a real estate market trend which is destined to increase sharply....go out and buy yourself or someone you love a house for Christmas!!!

DanMan...reality check... We have gained around 40 million in the last 10 years, and you think that we are going to gain 700 million in the next 5 years??? Not happening. Check the link to get a better estimate. You also expect the population of the ENTIRE PLANET to jump by 50% in the next 5 years. You REALLY need to get different sources. They are WAY off. By the way, global population growth is annually less than 1%, putting world population (high estimate) at just over 6.9 billion in 5 years.

Immigration will be big, and the war will continue to be an issue, but if the economy continues to spiral downward as I expect, it will be pretty important by the time of the elections. The dollar is falling like a rock, and we're in big trouble. Get your money into foreign currency quickly. Immigration is a real issue, and growing, but if the dollar falls much faster, they'll make more money working in Mexico.

You're probably right, but I can see Iran becoming a huge problem again, because their president is an *** with huge political power. He can probably make you disappear with less than a single phone call.

And as far as the economy goes: The stock market is the highest it's ever been, mortgage rates are said to be at "Record Lows!!" and the cost of living is supposedly on the decline. And quite frankly, I'm inclined to believe that.

And as mentioned before by someone else, the education system could be an issue again if everything gets picked over. But she said that there wasn't a problem; I disagree. I have a friend who goes to a public school. He's one of the average students in the school, and he's fricken retarded. Of course there are some smart people in that school, but the majority are none too smart, my friend being among some of the dumber kids. His report card averages about 5 C's, 2 D's and one F. I've seen it before. HE FAILED PRE-ALGEBRA!!!!!!!!!! How do you f*** that up!?!?!

Well, I can answer this question three ways...the issue that i this is THE issue, the issue the candidates will make THE issue, and the issue i think the people will think is THE issue...
First, what I think is THE issue...population. Population is the bedrock upon all other issues rest upon...it affects crime, employment, economy, health, immigration, everything. Word around town is that America, with current trends, will go to a billion people by year 2012. The world population to 10 billion at around the same year. When is it going to come to a point when it becomes a threat not just to quality of life, not just to crime, not just to health, but to national security and world substenance? My opinion is that the US must go back to immigration levels of 1964, 200,000 a year, screened, and educated, and immediately deport the millions of illegal immigrants already here, to have any chance with anything else.
The candidates issue is always Economy. They like to talk about tax cuts, tax breaks, not taxing this, taxing that.
The masses issue will be...Economy. Most voters vote with their pocket books...if the economy is going good, they will go with the incumbant, if it's bad, they go with the challenger...
That's pretty much it...

Here's how politics works. If there isn't an issue, the politicians will all invent an issue and gather round it. One popular invention is the education system. Politicians love to paint a nasty, awful picture of American public education, so that they can promote themselves on how they plan to "fix" the "problem." So, don't you worry. There'll be plenty of issues - whole subscriptions, in fact - for the presidential candidates to fuss over.

By the end of next year Iran would be giving the final touches to their nuclear bomb....I hope we will have a credible Commander in Chief for the face off with Iran.

If you'll notice, the talk has grown less and less in regards to Iraq. The dirty little secret that the liberal democrats dont want you to know is that things are getting less violent all the time there and that is a result of the surge. That is why the focus has went away from the war and towards health care, (which in my opinion does NOT need "fixing") and the economy.

I think that the issue of most importance and need of attention is immigration.

Every now and then they seem to change from one subject to another.
I am hoping they will go back to addressing HEALTH CARE and IRAQ.
