How can I make my nails look more presentable while growing out artificial gel nails?

I am trying to grow out gel nails. They do not come off with acetone, as they're not acrylics, they're gels. Gel won't come off with acetone. They're about halfway there, but does anyone have any tips on making my hands look better until they're completely grown out? They look terrible right now. Thanks!

I don't want to have them professionally removed because the only way for them to get them off is to basically pry them off, which would cause significant damage to the natural nail bed. There is no special solution that nail techs have to remove gel nails; it's either file them way down or pry them off.
