Make the 6.2% FICA tax on employees and employers taxable on all income, not capped at a maximum income ($102,000 for 2008). This can also be used to lower the employee tax rate, especially at lower income levels, and perhaps change it from a regressive to a progressive tax..

I agree with fishguy. We would all be better off if we could invest the money in private accounts where the money would belong to us rather than give it to the government. Unfortunately this does no good for all the soon to be retiring baby boomers. All of us younger people will have to pay huge taxes to fund the baby boomer or else the baby boomers will have to take a big cut in benefits.
In the end it will have to be a compromise that includes higher taxes and fewer benefits.
We have been talking about this problem for many many years so anyone out there who is counting solely on SS benefits has not been listening.
Who ever came up with this crazy system anyway.

Make the oil corps give back all the welfare Bush gave them over the past 7 years would keep SS in the black for years .
That's an easy way to help SS.

Let's just get rid of it altogether and the governement can give us back the 15.3% they take out of our paychecks so we can invest how we see fit.
We'll end up with much more money at retirement that way.
