ok, someone i know got in a car accident last night. it was next to a ditch, and they pulled it around to get it out of the way, and hide it from the police until the next day when a tow truck could come. today he went, and the car wasnt there anymore. he called all the tow companies, impound companies, and places like that, and he can't find the car. now what should he do?

Contact the department of transportation. It may have been towed as a hazard, or abandoned vehicle.

Seriously, what he needs to do is call the police and report it stolen and just give the location.

Go by the rule 'less is more'... meaning that he should not volunteer why it was where it was unless they ask. If they do ask, he should just tell them he had pulled off the road because he was too sleepy to drive and called a friend via his cellphone for a ride home.

If you leave your car along side the road or in a ditch, it will be considered abandoned. Depending on whom you call depends on what type of road your friend left his car alongside: an interstate would be the state patrol (state police), a county highway would be that county's sheriff department, a city street would that city's police department.

Call the highway patrol! If he didn't collide with another vehicle, he did nothing wrong! They will be able to tell him where the vehicle is unless it has been stolen!

He can call and say he wants to report his vehicle stolen!
