Check that the run of piping from the sink to the downpipe has a sufficient slope (fall). Sometimes the pipe runs almost horizontally, causing stagnant water to collect at the lowest point and not run away. If this happens, frequent refilling of the sink with water and bleach may help, leaving the sink plug in to let the bleach water drain away slowly overnight.

i suspect your overflow is the source. bleach it.
