I'm doing an essay for school, but I'm having trouble finding information. I have to analyze a single house of worship and how it relates to religious beliefs and practices, and include specific examples of material culture and how it reflects religion. I've been looking for info for a few days, but I've never found anything I can use. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places, but any help is greatly appreciated. Essay is due Monday.

Try St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. That is a famous church that comes to my church vacant mind. You could probably google that church and get a lot of information other than a wikipedia article.

Consider San Giovanni in Laterano (aka St. John Lateran) in Rome which is Rome's (original and actual) Cathedral (and outranks St. Peter's) and was the residence of the Popes until they returned from Avignon in the 14th century. Christians have worshipped there at least since the 4th century and it houses the relics of St. John the Baptist. The doors of the Cathedral are the original doors of the Roman Senate! Nearby is purportedly the first ever structure meant to be baptistery (as opposed to one inside a church) as well as the Lateran palace where the Popes lived. The property is also famous since it was owned by an ancient Roman senatorial family (the Plautii Lateranii), fell into the hands of Constantine, and then given to the Bishops of Rome. In the square where Cathedral sits is an the largest obelisk in Rome - removed from Egypt and brought to Rome in 357 AD.

You can also look into the other 2 major basilicas of Rome - San Paolo Fuori la Mura (St. Paul Outside the Walls) and Santa Maria Maggiore (St. Mary Major).

How's that for a start?
