I'm 13 and some of my friends work in small newsagents behind the till and stacking shelves. One friend works in a frame shop, framing pictures. They are all 14. I have been trying to get a job in a clothes/shoe shop but you have to be 16 for that.

Well, they might be able to do some janitor work at the elementary and junior high schools after school. You could check with the school district to make sure they are open, not all may have that opportunity. Another may be a bagger at a local grocery store. They're not going to find some big jobs as 13/14 year olds because of child labor laws, but you could definitely look into these.

When I was 10 years old I made and sold kites to other kids. A bit later I became the bicycle expert - fix flats, clean bikes, replace parts as needed. I collected and sold recyclable goods; At 15, I became a photographer - took pictures of my class, friends etc and sold prints. Took care of pets.
There is lots to do, just find some relatively well heeled kids or parents that shy away from manual work, e.g. mowing lawns, washing cars, shovel snow, plant shrubs or flowers. Check what the pros are charging and be 25 % cheaper.

They can rake leaves, shovel snow, mow the lawn, babysit....
There are actually a ton of jobs out there suitable for 13/14 year olds, really. They can do something close to all their interests. If your son and daughter wants jobs, maybe have them decide what they want to do. i mean, it isn't like someone is gonna force them to do a job they disgust. Right?

Probably any grocery store, however I think you may need a work permit to work if you are below 18 years old. Lowe's Foods, Target, Food Lion, Harris Teeter or Kroger's.

Baby sitting, pet sitting, bring in the mail/newspaper
for neighbors on vacation, help with chores around the
house, rake leaves, shovel snow, help put away groceries,
take out the trash, unload dishwasher, set the table, clear
off the table, walk the dog, feed the dog, help with younger
siblings, etc.

My 14 year old son has been working mowing lawns, helping neighbors with whatever, just tell them to ask people if they need help. That's how my son found work.

i used to work in an icecream shop when i was 14. i am friends with the lady who owns it though, so maybe that's why she let me work. but there's quite a few things they can do. in this state, IN, they let you get a workers permit at 14 and 15 only and you can work at a library or grocery store or something like that.
