Buy an OEM versh of XP pro for almost nothing now and re-install. Better still, why not dual boot the 2 OSs.

MS is focussed primarily on Vista and you should be able to pick up an OEM XP for very little now.

Dell will SCOFF openly at yr request BTW. You should have ordered it with XP in the first place.

do no longer hear to THE POEPLE TELLING YOU 4Gb OF RAM MAKES the pc "swifter" that is unquestionably been shown that 4Gb would make your pc SLOWER via a million-2%!! So no, that isn't any longer properly worth it, the dell human beings want a brilliant bonus on the top of the month, so they're going to assist you to realize each little thing and something to get extra funds out of you....which contain....that pc isn't properly matched with XP....pay £2 hundred extra for this one, which does. particular, if a working laptop or pc is Vista in a position, it one hundred% GURANTEED works with XP! So particular, circulate forward and purchase it, get your unique domicile windows XP and CD Key, you are able to no longer use a domicile windows Vista CD Key for XP and vice versa (get it from the previous pc in case you desire, once you desire it activating, jus tell Microsoft you replaced your motherboard using fact it became into defective, yet you will basically apply it to one pc!)

Call them and ask. You might be able to take it to Best Buys Geek Squad and have them take it off and run XP, but I'm sure it will cost you some $$. Dell is a hard company to deal with since they don't have an actual Dell store and you have to deal with them online or over the phone and anytime I have called they want money from me just to walk me through the steps on the phone (for Comp. problems) and then they don't even speak english very well and its hard to understand them, but they won't help you for free thats for sure. I bought a new labtop and it was broken when it arrived and I called Dell and they tried to charge me money just to tell me that the darn thing was indeed broken!!

No, they won't. I know people who have tried. You can put on your own copy of XP on and Dell will still support your hardware. I work on Dells' everyday and I hear this frequently. Vista is not that bad(I like it) if you customize it the way you want.

I know you would rather have XP; but that is not the Windows way. Bill Gates is gonna take away support for XP soon and force everyone to upgrade to Vista. Get use to it.

It may depend on when you bought it. I swear by Dell. I've had two! My daughter works from home. Her work programs did NOT work on her new Vista Dell puter.
She called Dell, and told them, she had to return it. It was worthless to her. She needed XP. And they obliged. I'm sure they'd rather keep a good sale, rather than a DISsatisfied customer.

i feel your pain as many others do, altho my brotherlaw did the kinks on vista , he syas it would be another 2 years before there all out of vista, you may want to think about wiping it out and just putting on windows xp, and by all means save what you need on a disk, good luck, ask dell and see what they say before you make that move tho
