ummmm I highly doubt it. But if you are the bionic woman I'd say yes.

Interesting, I think it's possible. I know that pound for pound lions are stronger than humans, but I wonder if the strength of a lion's neck is more than for example my complete upper body strength (I'm pretty average).
And I wonder if a lion has the intelligence to tense the muscles in order to survive... it might resort to thrashing about in panic. I know I could crush/strangle a human. Got a lion I could test this on?
As for the force applied... 200 pounds? Just a guess, I'm basing it on the thought that if I can do pullups with my weight (187lbs) they're pretty much the same muscles should involved in clamping, right? Should consult a wrestler for this really.

um, no. That is why those stories are myths. Even if you could get to its neck, you still have the teeth and claws to deal with.
The human arm is a good example of a third class lever, but when it comes to human v lion, one would not get the chance to use it as a lever... but the lion may use it to pick his teeth with.
I can give you all sorts biomechanical force values of the upper arm for all sorts of motions, but nothing that would fit this scenario.
One could not actually do a classic wrestling headlock on a full grown male lion. At best it would have to be a wrap around and grasp hand/wrist action (should you live long enough to even try). Wish I could help you with this.

Theoretically, a man could break a lion's neck - the idea of killing it with a headlock (to break the skull?) is less likely.
However, it has been my experience that lions generally don't sit still placidly while people are grabbing their heads...they tend to want to use their claws. That said, I guess you should decide if the lion is worth killing, or if you'd be better off just leaving it alone.

I think a man has enough strength to choke a lion, that in itself doesn't take much power. No lion would stand still and let it happen though.

maybe, but the lion would likely have ripped the man to shreds by the time the man even started to think about getting the lion in a headlock !! Like UHHHHHH the lion is eating my intestines..I better get him in a headlock :)

Maybe a very young lion cub, not a full grown, healthy, conscious (heck, even semi-conscious) lion. ...By the way, I think this has to be one of the funniest questions I have ever heard. The answer to your question is obviously no, but if it were debatable, who would be the poor soul to test the theory?
...And by the way, thank you for the hilarious images that are going thru my head right now.

Ok, find a cat, any cat, and put it in a headlock. I guarantee you will let go before you kill it. No matter how average or above average you may be.

yes. but the real question is how does the man get the lion in that position? Or how doped up does the lion have to be to let the man get that close?

There may be exception, as there is to almost every rule. But I am pretty sure that most humans, no matter how strong or quick they may be, are going to lose this battle :)
