I'll second the ones above-- Lovecraft is like Poe in his use of words, which I like but may be too slow for some. Bloch & Koontz are both good too.

possibly you will like Christopher Pike... no longer the cheesy Spooksville or something sequence he wrote for little ones. i'm conversing with reference to the books for older readers... i think of the titles I examine have been Chain letter, close eye occasion, and a few others i do no longer endure in ideas. I cherished them because of the fact they might unquestionably spook me out, yet I end analyzing his books when I examine Monster... That e book isn't pronounced. possibly i'm insane, yet that became into one horror tale i could no longer cope with...

Dean Koontz.... very similar to King, but faster paced, and almost as prolific.
