Ditch the friend.
The guy pretty much sounds like a f-cking jackass.
The music a person likes doesn't have anything at all to do with a racially negative sense.
If that jackass was truly your friend, he would respect your opinions and hobbies. He would respect the fact that you do not like rap. And he wouldn't bring his black friends and crash the party just because you didn't play any rap music.
In this situation the person truly at fault is your so-called friend. Do not try to talk or hang out with him. Just completely ignore the guy and mind your own business. Only after he apologizes to you about what he did should you become friends again.
Hope i helped.

Forgive him and his insecurities. There is a lot of hatred out there and some people have become accustomed to fighting for their rights ... even when there is no fight.
Be honest and upfront. Tell him where you went wrong in not seeing this before hand, because of your youth and inexperience, and assure him your friendship means more to than a cd of any music.
Be sincere. ... & don't go alone! Make sure others who werer involved can embrace this kid, forgive him and move on.
Heck, NEXT TIME, have HIM bring the music!! (See if he doesn't forget a little .. jazz, pop, classical or rock) he will forget something he's HUMAN TOO! ;)

You should call him over the phone and try to explain to him that you were not trying to be racist, you were just trying to play the music that appealed to you and the other guests. You should try to keep the conversation calm, and end the conversation if it gets too heated. If that happens, you should cut all ties to him. He's not really a true friend, and doesn't deserve to hang out with you. There are white rappers anyways. You don't want to put yourself in danger. If this guy can chuck an iPod at the wall when he's angry, who knows what he can do to you if he gets really mad. Good luck and I hope he understands that you weren't trying to be racist!!! :-)

I wouldn't call this immature creep a friend anymore, frankly.
For starters playing the "race card" cuz of your choice of music is just ridiculous. I play music all day by black artitsts (house/techno/etc) but none of it is rap...does that still make me racist? In your idiot friend's mind apparently it does.
You really need to cut ties off from this fella...and frankly if it were MY party and he came there damaging my ipod and bringing a group of thugs to blast rap music at us, I'd have called the cops!!

well,
First of all, you are not racist because you do not like rap music. It's a genre of music that you are entitled to like or dislike. Period. i personally dont' like techno/rock music. That doesn't qualify me being racist. I just simply don't like those specific genres.
In terms of your friend, you should give you both some time to let the situation cool off. He may come to realize that he over-reacted or that he behaved foolishly. Time will also allow you to get your thoughts together, and decide whether or not this guy is truly your friend, and to decide what you are going to say to him.

I don't know what you should do, but it's people like him make legit complaints wash out.
This guy you know is an idiot. Wether your racist or not depends on the type of music you listen to? That's stupid.
I'd try my best to keep my distance. There isn't really much else you can do. He hasn't hurt anyone or broke any laws as far as I can tell.
But this guy really needs a reality check.
If he wanted rap music included so badly why didn't he make his own damned mix tape?

i kind of don't agree with any of the answers above...come on EMINEM = WHITE RAPPER??? WAT THE HELL IS THIS? ok, truthfully, i think what you should have done was:
1) asked everyone their favorite band/artist or song...
2) then played that at the party
3) it would have prevented all of this ****...
4) so dude, you should have been more carefully
++++++++++
and it sounds like you are racist because:
you said, "Our friend (WHO IS BLACK) pulled the ipod out of the computer."]
ok, what did the capitalised thing even have to do with it? does being black, red, brown matter? huh? wat so now you realize what you did? then you said:
"He left the party and came back about an hour later with 3 huge BLACK guys with a boombox with very LOUD RAP music playing."
wat does that not sound racist to you? adding black guys to every sentence?

It's not rasist if you don't like rap music. I don't like it either. In fact i don't like most music now a days. -.-"
Tell this friend of your's that it was rude to disturb the party like that. in fact you shouldn't have invited him shouldn't you have? lol but you didn't know. i would say dump him as a friend. don't invite him to any more parties.
i'm not saying not to be friends with black people. just don't be friends with someone who is very rude and distruptive.
A lot of my friends love rap music and i can't stand it but they don't do that sort of things at my parties. i'm sure of it.
Tell him you and your other guests deserve an apology and that he should understand that you didn't include rap in the mix because most of the people at the party disliked it. in fact show him this post, if he tells you your rasist after telling and explaining to him the situation, tell someone of authority. If he threatens you or someone else tell someone of athourity.

Dude, if you are white, its a given that you are a racist. Whether you are or not. Welcome to the brave new world. Your friend probably felt that your music was disenfranchising him. Not all blacks are are inculcated in the ghetto-gangsta mentality, but you seem to have found one that is. Chose your friends more wisely. In the mean time, get a bunch of big guys and crash one of his parties with some Zeppelin albums. Show'em whats what.

Oh my ain't we calling the kettle ........blue! (for fear of being accused of being racists, which I am not!)
Hon that is NOT a friend, regardless of his skin color. It sounds like to me that HE is the one with the Racist Complex. I love all kinds of people, black, white, brown, yellow, red and every other color of the rainbow, BUT I hate Rap too! I think it is the worst excuse for making vulgarity legal.
I do not like opera, does that mean I have a Racists attitude towards the upper class?...NO! I do not like Heavy Metal does that mean I don't like Head Bangers....No! It means I have my own likes and dislikes! I have an opinion of what I like and don't like....simply!
I
If the "majority" didn't like Rap then you did exactly what I think anyone would have done. My advice to you, stay away from people who have a anger problems and be choosier when picking your friends.....Lord bless
