NOT REALLY NEEDED FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN TAKING KIDS TO SCHOOL AND SHOPPING OR IF WE GO ON A TRIP AND DRIVE. I AM NOT INTERESTED IN TOWING OR 4 WHEEL DRIVING BUT THESE 2 VEHICLES ARE BEING SOLD AT A REALLY GOOD AND AFFORDABLE PRICE. MAINLY I WANT TO SEE WHICH ONE IS MORE RELIABLE AS FAR AS UNDER THE HOOD IS CONCERNED.

Might also help us to know what you are looking for in an SUV.

Off road capabilities, towing capacity, interior storage capacity, safety, reliability, etc. Which factors are important to you? Does the Durango come with a V6 or a V8? Have you gone on consumer reports to look into reliability ratings for those vehicles?

Personally, I wouldn't choose either of the two you mention. I would choose a Toyota. I'm on my second Toyota 4Runner. I had 175K miles on my 93 when I sold that one and I have 120K miles on my 02 4Runner. Both vehicles were/are very reliable, they have sufficient towing capabilities for my needs, good amount in internal space for hauling stuff (which has included things such as loads of firewood and even 40 bags of gravel (40 pounds each bag). They are also great in the snow and great off road.

If your going to just use it around town and on trips, you don't want either one. Your just wasting your money on 4WD components that you obviously won't use. I would suggest a mini-van, they ride smoother and are more spacious for long trips than either of the above mentioned trucks. If your not towing or using the hauling or 4WD options your just wasting your money because the added equipment needed to accomodate a trailer or offroad use is pricy to repair, maintain, and also comes with heavy duty suspension which will give you a rough ride.
