I guess it reaally depends on your social circle and the type of people your son will be around. For example, if he will spend a lot of time with uneducated (not to be mean, but a lot of nice people are dumb as doorknobs.) then you definitely shouldn't name him that. But if he will be spending time around people that are farily educated and will respect his name for its Greek origins, then go for it! I personally love the idea. But I'm a huge fan of Greek literature and culture. Think of situations your son could face where having a name like Pan would not be favorable. Always think of when he is grown up. Consider all the aspects of a name and the feelings, emotions, or ideas it can envoke. Congrats on a baby boy!

Well you should name your baby boy whatever you want. If you want to name him Pan, name him Pan. But of course some people are going to think he's named after a frying pan, but, you can't help that. But let people know that he is named after a Greek God. But I think the name is cool!! Go for it!!!

It is a nice name because of the meaning behind it...so that people dont think you named him after a frying pan you might want to try a different spelling or with and accent or something...best of luck and may he be blessed

Even though it is our parental right to name our children whatever we chose, we need to look at the big picture! Will this name create a circumstance where being made fun of is in inevitable....probably so! Will the name be a name that will cause confusion of the sex of the child?....probably! (as a few have pointed out it sounds like Pam). Could the child grow up with an inferior complex due to this name?....could be!
Please reconsider this name! There are many websites that will give you various names. My hubby suggested that maybe you could find a name that has the name "Pan" in it.....I pray you find one that suits both you and your child...Lord bless

You honestly think everyone will think of the Greek god when hearing the name Pan? I doubt it. My parents made my name up from two names to be different, and I absolutely hate it and will not use it.

i think the idea of naming him after a Greek god is awesome, but most people aren't going to know who Pan the Greek god is, but he's YOUR child and so if you like it GO FOR IT!

I like how you're thinking, but no way. There are other cool names from Greek mythology. Plus, I think Pan is where "pandemonium" came from... He was associated with disorder...just something else to think about. Good luck :)

Hey I think that's a great name, especially if you're Greek. I once knew someone who named their kid Lite Bulb, so explaining what Pan means will be a walk in the park compared to the parents of Lite Bulb.

Pan is a unique name. He may get picked on just because of that. Maybe a strong, masculine middle name would help.
