Okay, for a mini project I created a (0,5),(3,1), (8,9) triangle.

Now I have to find the linear equation that corresponds to each side. How do I go about finding this..I would appreciate it if someone can teach me in doing 1 example.

Thanks.

you could
give points and use the distance formula to find the others d squared = (x1-x2)squared+(y1-y2)squared

give two point and us the patagerom themreo
a sqared + b squared= c squared

or use

y=mx+b

ok so your 3 points, lets call them, A, B, and C
A: (0,5)
B: (3,1)
C: (8,9)

A linear equation is in the form y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y intercept. You find out the slope with the equation m = (y2 - y2)/(x2 - x1)

So for the line of AB you have
y = mx + b
m = (y2 - y2)/(x2 - x1)
m = (1 - 5)/(3 - 0)
m = -4/3

Now you have y = -4/3x + b

To find out the y-intercept b, you want to enter in some point that exists on that line. We'll put in (0,5)

y = -4/3x + b
5 = -4/3(0) + b
5 = 0 + b
b = 5

So your equation is y = -4/3x + 5

If you want to double check that you can enter in the other point to make sure

y = -4/3x + 5
1 = -4/3(3) + 5
1 = -4 + 5
1 = 1

Then you would do the same for the other 2 lines, using the points, B&C, and A&C

take the vertex (0,5) and (3,1)

1. Find the slope of the line
(5-1)/(0-3) = -4/3

2. eq of line = (y-5)/(x-0)=-4/3
y-5 = -4x/3

in slope intercept form y = -4x/3 + 5

do the same for the others

your slope (m) = -4/3
the person who listed -4/3x should technically have typed it as (-4/3)x, but did give you the fact that that was the slope
