Are They Very Painful?

Dysmenorrhea is the term used to describe pain during or before menstruation. The pain can be located in the lower back, abdomen or legs. For some women, the pain is so bad that the woman cannot carry out normal everyday activities. 10% of girls absent from school each month are due to painful periods, and it is estimated that 140 million work hours each year are lost to cramps.

Secondary dysmenorrhea is characterized by a kind of congested, dull pain that begins up to two weeks before the start of your flow. This kind of cramping is more common in women in their 30's and 40's and usually does not get better with age. It can be accompanied by bloating, weight gain, breast tenderness, headaches, lower back pain, and irritability.

If The Pain Is Really Bad You Should see A Doctor. Cramping Before Your Period Is Normal, But Not Normal If Unbearably Painful.

Some women do notice a bit of cramping a couple weeks before the next period but I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.
