Um the guests that visit my house take their shoes off without us asking. They're just polite because I have a nice house lol =D

While I am a full-time barefooter, I don't require people to take off their shoes when they visit. I don't really like any shoe or footwear rules; it should be clear to anyone who reads these barefoot questions that there are people who're just as uncomfortable taking their shoes off as I would be wearing them. Why would I do that to them? A house is meant to be lived in, and my cats don't even wipe their feet when they come in... only when someone would have very muddy shoes, I'd ask them to do something about it, but whether they take their shoes off or use the outdoor hose is up to them.

Shoes off all the time in my house. When someone comes over they usually see us in socks or the pile of shoes at the door and that seems to be a enough of a clue that no shoes are allowed. With kids I will ask them directly. When my friends come over for the first time I just tell them "could you please take your shoes off before coming in we have a no shoes rule here."

no we don't but I might start because I learned about indoor pollutants that come into your home on the bottom of shoes. We studied it in my bio class and some of these things can cause cancer or learning disorders in childern. Shoes off is a good idea.

Well, it's tradition in the North, but I don't actually "require" my friends to remove their shoes when they visit. However, when it's snowy; they normally do, right inside the door!!

Unless you are providing alternative footwear for your guests to wear such as slippers while you're entertaining, asking guests to remove their shoes is bad form.

You should have like slippers for them to wear around the house.
Ones that are ONLY worn around the house so that they stay
clean.
You cant just make your guest walk barfoot!
