multiply the total price by the percent, so 39.99 x 0.15 then that is the amount off. so you take that 39.99 subtracted by the answer you got in the first part. and you will get your sales price.

If the sale price is 15% off that means you are paying 100%-15% = 85% of the regular price. You should immediately memorize that you find a percent (such as 85%) of a number by multiplying the percent in decimal form times the number.

So the sale price is 85% of $39.99 = 0.85(39.99).

I'll let you do the calculation by hand or calculator and round off to the nearest cent.

Then to find the size of the discount subtract the sale price from the original price (or find 15% of the original price).

Discount = 15%

you pay 100% -15% = 85% of the price

Discount = 39.99 (15/100) =5.9985 or $6.00

you pay $39.99 -$6.00 = $33.99

If the game is 39.99 and it is 15% off then:

15%=0.15 so 39.99 times 0.15= 5.9985 <---that is the discount. ($6.00 when rounded) and
39.99-5.9985= 33.9915 is the same price ($33.99 when rounded)

discount = 39.99 x 15% = 39.99 x 0.15 = 5.99
sale price = 39.99 - 5.99 = 34
