Do you have a ritual you follow when opening presents. Is there
one person who always wants to be 'last'? That's me!
And who hates packing everything into the car late at night to
go back home? Especially if temps are freezing.

Christmas is going to be at my stepson's house. We'll be there to watch our grandson open presents in the morning. The other stepson and his wife will be there too. Each of us buys a $50 gift for a white elephant gift exchange. We take turns opening a gift or deciding if we want someone else's. Since we will nly be bringing 2 gifts, we will be leaving with two gifts. Plus whatever we bring for our grandson.

I'm not sure where we'll have Christmas yet. Since we live in different states we're trying not to have to mail a bunch of gifts this year. We usually open one present on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas day. We take turns opening the presents. If we go somewhere else we stay a couple nights, so we don't have to come home late at night.

(i have about 36 cusins last time i counted lol but since its just my mums side between 15-20) the kids 12 & younger start begging to open presents at 10. those of us 15 and older just want to wait until midnight like how it was when we were little. when we do open everyone just attacks the tree lol. and yes packing all that crap into the car is awful!!!!!! the family is in chicago and were in the subarbs so its a long rideeee and its frezzin! and this is all xmas eve. on xmas day my sister and i go to my dads house for more presents!

Let's see.... Christmas Eve at my fiance's house, then home to put presents under the tree. We don't open presents, though. Christmas morning is spent at home. My mom is there and my son opens presents first, then my mom, then me(I love to be last). Then we go to my dad & stepmom's for brunch and open more presents there (again, my son goes first). Then back to my fiance's house for the afternoon. There, my son opens first, then my fiance, then me. Then we go to his parents' house, where all the kids go first, oldest to youngest, then the rest of us in no particular order. Then back home for dinner and so my son can finally play with some of the stuff he got. It's always a busy day, but good, especially since the farthest I have to travel is 10 miles in any one direction.

My married daughter and her family spend the night. I go to bed as usual and they and my children at home (17 and 18) wait until I am asleep and open their stockings (which are full of gag gifts and toys even though they are all grown.) They stay up all night and play games. In the morning we open the presents one at a time according to age (the honor goes to the youngest to pass out the gifts-she's 2 this year) and go around in circle until we are done. No it doesn't come out even, but we are grown up so that's OK.

Gee whiz, everyone sounds so good, i hate to say, but we don't open presents anymore. It was fun when we did, and with the kids, it was Christmas morning. The kids always left Santa a glass of milk and cookies on the table with a note to Santa. Ehen the kids went to bed, I had to wait until they were asleep, then take my bunch of bells, and climb up on the roof and jump up and down and HO, HO, Ho, a few times and then come down and go in the house and rustle around the tree, Ho Ho some more and eat the cookies. All the time ma kept the kids in their room and let them just listen,. Then i opened the door, Said Merry Christmas outdoors and then snuck back in the house and got in bed. After a bit, the kids could come down to see what Santa had left and that he ate the cookies. Then they had to go back to bed and wait til morning. It worked great until one day, my youngest daughter found the bells, The jig was up. But it was fun.

Last year it was at my house...not sure about this year. It MAY be at my ex hubby's home as this is his last year to live in the area [he's moving]...at any rate we appoint the two younger kids to hand out presents to folk, one to each person and we watch them open them before starting anew at the mound of boxes!

We open on Christmas Day.

And yes, I never look forward to the drive back home and lugging stuff up 3 flights of stairs! LOL
