Because I think people have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas. I do not mean in the religious sense.

The media do not help by pile on the pressure to make sure we have keep up with the latest gadgets.

Why bow to that?!?

For me its about spending time with my family.

Because all of us as we grow older and then marry etc and have children always want to give our children and family more than we ever had..... and sadly this has led to the 9 year olds with a bedroom full of electronics and the probability of concord before they are 21 and it all costs money....
We need to get back to the one main present and a few smaller ones rather than this DVD player/Computer sound surround *** home cinema in the bedroom spending so many seem to do at this time of the year.
And no I am no scrooge, I just believe we are spoiling our children and grandchildren with all the 'everything on a plate' attitude with no effort etc that we all seem to practice now, regardless of the cost and financial burden it imposes.

There is so much PRESSURE to spend like there is no tomorrow (which, of course, there is), and going overboard, not sticking to a budget, and the blatant commercialism in the stores causes a LOT of the problems with money worries.

That, and the fact that when the next month rolls around and people see the HUGE (astronomical) bills -- then they are stressed out to the max, and the only relief -- paying them down as they can.

It is not the Christmas that brings so much money worries, it is the culture and business multiplication

Because we made it that way. With all the advertising around the holidays, and all the kids having to have what all the other kids have, it's disgusting! My family doesn't give gifts unless you're under 10 years old. After that, nada. Christmas has much more meaning than gifts. Instead of buying my family gifts, I donate to charities.

because my kid always wants the most expensive stuff. I told her to go online and make a shopping list of what she wants. What she does is, she goes onto the web site and puts the items she wants into her 'shopping basket' and at the end she just prints off the basket for me to have a look at. She was on the PC for about 3 hours, I thought she was doing her homework...little did I know!! lol She brought me the 152 page document!! lol to have a look at and I added it all up for a laugh and it came to over £4500!!!! LOL There were 2 PS3's in there!! LOL I 'advised' her thatsanta was not real!!! lol ONLY KIDDING!! I did say that he may have difficulty though?

Unfortunately parents are under pressure from their children to provide them with what they want. Advertising is constantly aimed at them and their friends will also be getting far too much in most cases. When I was a child, we were happy with very little. Christmas was a magical time.

Look at your OWN financial situation and don't look to others in what they buy for food and presents etc etc.

Its such a commercialised area now..kids wants the latest must-haves which will probably go out of Vogue in a few months then expect you to dig deeper in to your pocket to buy them the new must-haves.

Spend sensibly and dont be PRESSURED into buying anything which is beyond your spending limit. No wonder people get deeper and deeper into debts.

Live according to your means and not beyond it.

Because people have let the gift giving get out of hand...trying to give more and more and more...it's a shame that we all cannot be happy with one or two small gifts, and a Family dinner, and enjoy being together, and going to Church services....
