Actually I don't have to work on Christmas day but would be happy to work in a community service (in London) and let someone else have the day off!

Yep. I'm working again on Christmas Day. I work nights in a young person's hostel. I start at 10pm and finish at 8.30am. Last year I worked 23rd to 26th December, and due to changes in the shifts will do the same this year.

I don't mind though as I have no children, am single, so it does not matter too much. Christmas for me will be in the run up, and the days afterwards.

Well, when I was on Active Duty with the US Military, yes, I WAS on DUTY during Christmas many times (Hey, let the "Single" stay on duty). So I know the situation quite well, and you know what -- when I was single -- it did not really bother me overmuch (mainly because I KNEW That I must keep going -- for I HAD to (especially since I had to Purchase my way out of a short Disaster of a Marriage ... and became a Long Term Single Parent along the way).

NOW ... as an Empty-Nesting Single Retiree ... I do NOT have to work on Christmas Day anymore!

I am a nurse and will be working in A&E on Christmas day. So be careful on those new bikes and skates, as I would like a quiet shift! I like it though. When I walk to work, I see all the kids on their new bikes and things with big smiles on their faces, and can hear children in their rooms squeeling as they open their presents. We put a little gift on the patients lunch trays (those that are able) and have Christmassy food in the staff room This year my lovely partner is home for Christmas, and will pick me up from work and take me home to a prepared meal (she says hopefully) So I try and work Christmas if I can.

Actually, I have Christmas off this year. But, I have worked it the past couple years.I am on call after noon, though, so, who knows? I work at a large hospital in the surgery department.Still think its not fair? It could be one of your family members that we are saving.

I will be at London Zoo at 7 am feeding the animals. It may be Christmas for us, but it's just another day for them, so someone has to feed them.
I love working on Christmas Day. It means I have an excuse not to visit relatives!

Yeah, I am one of those poor people that work on Christmas day...........I cook and feed the family and clean up after them...........so not so poor really!

But, on a serious note, I did do hospital work on this very day and found it to be very satisfactory!

I once spent this day in hospital when my son had pneumonia.............

Either way, you make it work to your advantage........you make the best of any situation, no matter what!

I'm Jewish and Christmas Day is just a holiday for somebody else. It's not a big deal to work on Christmas if you don't care about it or it has negative connotations.
