College teams tend to keep the same fan base. There is a financial commitment (went to school there, relative went to school there, etc.), a state commitment (the primary university), or commitment since childhood (again a family member attended, or followed, etc)
Look at the attendance of the games in the last 20 years, when the professional team wins, chances are they are sold out. When they lose, you can hear crickets in the stadium. The college teams, win or lose, remain pretty much the same. Sold out 20 years ago, sold out today. Win or lose.
