I can see two types of optimism. One is of a hard-working person who keeps trying even though he or she fails. The other is of a person who always see the brighter side of life. I think the latter one would have a longer life expectency, but not the first. The first person would be optimistic and driven, but that would eventually lead to more worries and stress. Stress would lead to unhealthy habits and tendencies. And those cause shorter lives. Hope this helped and that I was clear!

Yes, because being optimistic causes less stress. Stress is a huge factor in life expectancy.

Every single time.
For even if the lack of stress associated with optimism doesn't make you live longer (and it usually does) you'll appreciate whatever age you did live to.
The pessimist only made it to 80, while the optimist made it all the way to 80...

Sure, less stress less bodily dysfunction.
Bring genetics in, a history of cancer, stroke and heart attack... I might be happy, but I could still be dead at 45.
Good thing you said "generally". :-)

Optimism is a great tool to carry with you in life. But do not mistake it with flippancy...
