I adore the song. It speaks to my heart about sharing and even carrying those we love in times of need. It isn't a burden when it is done in love. Too bad we as a planet have not evolved enough to take it to heart for mankind.

It's a great song with great lyrics that would be nice to see someone today do a redo on without turning it into something it isn't like rap or hip hop or heavy metal. I think it is talking about
taking care of each other, and also referred to the Vietnam War soldiers. Why don't the youth of today appreciate this message
like so many did back then?? At least the youth I know are great kids but pretty self centered. This is NOT a stereotype, just my personal experience.

It is an anthem for brotherhood. The title came from the motto for Boys Town, a place where troubled or homeless boys could come for help. In 1941, Father Flanagan was looking at a magazine called The Messenger when he came across a drawing of a boy carrying a younger boy on his back, with the caption, "He ain't heavy Mr., he's my brother." Father Flanagan thought the image and phrase captured the spirit of Boys Town, so he got permission and commissioned a statue of the drawing with the inscription, "He ain't heavy Father, he's my brother." The statue and phrase became the logo for Boys Town.

It is one of my favourites. It's a lovely song and agree, inspiring. Maybe a wake up call for us all. Lets not focus on our problems, lets help others more.

Wow, we used to listen to that song all the time.
It's a beautiful song with a wonderful message. Life is much better when we have genuine concern for the welfare of others and we share their load.

I have never been able to decipher some of the old 60's songs? I sometimes wonder how stoned some of the writers were when they wrote of ballads?

It's about ending fear and hatred and affirming brotherhood. Pity more of us didn't listen. We are still so quick to hate and fear those we perceive as different from us. Here's a link to the Hollies in concert:
