The best thing for you would be to create yourself a seperate account where no any of her programs will load and slow down startup. She should herself configure those messengers to not to start from start-up and only run them each time she clicks on an icon. There are some messengers (like trillion) that can replace all three and instead of having 3 loading messengers you have only 1. However for full funtionality, like video chat, she should keep Yahoo IM or Live Messenger (MSN).

Yes I used to have the same problem. However, like agello previously stated, Trillion is a great program that will work for Aim, Yahoo, IRC- All In One! So talk to your daughter about trying this cool program and uninstalling the others to save some space on your computer and make starting up easier.

Also what I usually do at start-up to speed things up is to go into the TASK MANAGER. When I go in here by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete , I just click on the PROCESSES tab, and end the uneeded processes. Sorry, they will still start up when you restart your computer as usual, but trying ctrl-alt-delete will help to speed you up by ending them before they fully open or while they are open.

Hope this helps.

Yes there is. If you click on options on all of those messengers there should be an option to start up when computer starts. If you can't get it to work that way, try, "Start" "Run" type in "msconfig" all the way to the left at the top of the box will be a startup tab, click the startup tab and see if they are listed. If they are, uncheck the box next to them and restart your computer. The only application that start on mine is Anti Virus, everything else can be started from the start menu.

You can go into the Control Panel > User Account ----
From here you can setup your own seperate account with your own seperate startup programs ,etc.
When you startup the computer -- you just have to log in on your very own account with it"s own settings. You can even make it with your own "password" so your daughter can not log into it. Your daughter"s account can be setup with a security "password" also ---- sooooo you can not get in on her account with-out knowing the password.
I would also setup a "guest" account for others to use --- let them login to the guest account only. This offers them just about everything they would need , but++ NO POWER++ to download, or make changes in the computer -- like to delete,etc.--- They are not a Administrator -- like you and your daughter will be in your accounts.
Also -- they can not sneak back and open your account, or daughters account for a "lookaround" at your files, etc. because they will be both "Password Protected".
Having these 2 accounts will use up a little more system resources, but will be ok . If you wish -- you could always install a little more ram --- probably not really needed.

i'm thinking your processor. case in point my pc im on suitable now could be a a million.86 GHZ. i'm analyzing yours as mhz that's far much less and if it somewhat is the splendid spec, it somewhat is your difficulty for my area. My ram is comparible to yours. And your complicated force area remains sufficient. in the experience that your processor is 1500 mhz i could blame that as your difficulty in spite of the undeniable fact that it could be you in basic terms misread it. another difficulty is what suitable classes are beginning whilst your pc is bobbing up. you are able to variety via those with the help of clicking start up>run>msconfig and clicking the startup tab. in case you already know what classes are which then you definately can disable some and notice in the experience that your overall performance will advance. in spite of the undeniable fact that in case you're uncertain enable a expert take a glance. **do not bypass intense and reload your working device. Vista is not any slower than XP in basic terms so which you already know when you consider that that replaced into additionally reported. I run the two working platforms on numerous of my own platforms.**

Sure, setup a separate "user" for your personal use. Your list of startup programs would not include these programs. I don't know what version of Windows you're running so if you ask again, specify whether it's Windows XP, Vista or whatever.

You do NOT want to run MSConfig. This is used to debug problems not build a custom startup config.

You do NOT want to change the startup behavior of your daughter's programs--not without incurring her wrath.

Under the options for each of the programs, you can click whether you want it to load at startup or not. Simply unclick the option and hopefully there isn't other problems with the computer making it slow.

My suggestion would be to set all the IM programs for you to start them up when your ready to use them. After you open IE. Most of them can be done right at their start up screen a check box that signs in automatically. As I do mine.
