Usually it works the opposite way, where you have been making something for a long time and people start asking you to sell them. Otherwise you'll spend years trying to figure out what you could be good at, what will sell, and what you can stand to make hundreds of. We all craft for the love of crafting and the money comes later.

For example, you already know that you love candles. What kind of candle could you do that nobody else does, and that everyone would want? A common mistake is that people will try to sell something that's ~meh~ to own, but a lot of fun to make. In that case, you would sell your pattern or a kit so people CAN make their own.

I am a candle maker and trust me there is not much money to be made in it. I work hard at it and I even have an online store but I am still not making a profit after 2 years so guess this is my last year. You can't compete with the big candle makers. There is a really good one that sells a blend of soy, palm and beeswaxes you can find them at www.butterflycandles.scent-team.com and you definitely can't compete. I have to admit they are awsome. So try to find something no one else has. I have no idea what that is or I would do it.

If it was that easy, why would we want to buy yours? I know people who'd love to buy handmade embroidered trim, but they wouldn't like to pay much for it. People want handmade goods for factory prices. Crafts really aren't money makers. I did spend a lot of money on handmade glass beads for an SCA costume, but I couldn't make them myself. If you want to make money, you have to have a craft that is cost prohibitive for others, or requires talent that others don't have. A glass blower could make money, an armour smith could make money, a basket maker could make money. No one is going to make money from photoshopping gift cards. People will pay for skill but not much for time.
