Webroot Spy Sweeper 5.5 (about $25) got an editor's choice from PC Magazine. In my experience, it does a good job at cleaning up infested systems and keeping them malware-free, as long as you update it regularly. The link below leads to the review.

Lavasoft Ad-Aware was once a good (and free) product, but I cannot recommend it anymore. It just has not kept up with technology.
If the $25 for Spy Sweeper is more than you want to pay to keep your system secure, download Microsoft's free Windows Defender (second link below). It does a good job and it does so quietly. On a clean system, this is about all you need. If your system is severely compromised, Spy Sweeper may have the edge in removing the malware.

I dont like Webroot Spy Sweeper, I purchased it, yes it was very good but suddenly started screwing up my computer. I am inthe United Kingdom and the Webroot support UK is not very helpful. I asked the question in here and decided to use SuperAntiSpyware. It has a very good free edition. I hope that helps.

I don't like spysweeper..I would get rid of it.. Add Spybot Search and Destroy..and Run Adaware and you should be fine. I have used this combo on many systems and it works great. One thing if using Trend Micro Anti virus don' use the immunize feature on spybot ..they don't play well together.

Spybot Search and Destroy is the best I have encountered. For best results run updated Adaware and Spybot.

Spybot Search and Destroy, certainly. Also...

Go to http://www.grisoft.com and fetch their new AVG anti-spyware. It'll run as a free-trial for 30 days, then, for free "limited mode" thereafter. What "limited" means is, you'll have to go out, by hand, and download your own updates (instead of having them downloaded automatically whenever you're online), and you'll have to run a scan, on your own, every now and then (instead of "scheduled" scans). Not too bad, que no?
