What is a good place to stay to ski in and ski out?
Is this close to the Denver Airport?

Perhaps steamboat is not the right place to go. Is there a place closer to the airport that is not so far away?
I don't like the idea of driving 6 total hrs.

Steamboat is a good place to ski and February to March are the best months for skiing anywhere in Colorado.

An alternative for something closer to Denver with many more skiing options would be to stay in Frisco, CO. Frisco is about 80 miles from Denver with an hour and half drive time on the interstate highway. Frisco is a great small town that is centrally located to the ski areas of Breckenridge (10 miles), Copper Mountain (8 Miles), Vail (20 Miles), Keystone (approx 10 miles), and A-Basin (16 miles).

There are plenty of hotels, condos and restaurants in Frisco. I stayed at Ten Mile Creek Condos. They are moderately price and a decent place to stay. For a homey, local hotel, stay at the Frisco Inn. For a fancy chain hotel, there is a big Holiday Inn.

Try www.themountainsusa.com for reservations. There's a nice New Zealand guy who runs a reservation service for many of the properties there.

Steamboat is a great place to ski. There are closer ski areas to Denver International Airport that may be good options if you plan to ski during the week. These areas include Keystone, Breckenridge, Copper, Winter Park, Vail and Beaver Creek. However, if you are planning your trip over a weekend I would avoid the above mentioned areas near Denver because they get way too crowded with Front Range residents who come up for the day. Steamboat would be a great choice during a weekend because it's far enough from Denver that it doesn't get too crowded on weekends.

I agree with the above answer and suggest February as a good month to come. The snow is usually best in February and March. I would try and make it before spring break (which is usually early March through April) because the mountain will be full of obnoxious kids/families from out of state and will not be a great atmosphere for you and your GF.

Good luck planning and have fun.

Steamboat is about a 3 hour drive from DIA. You actually drive up to Larimie, WY then go back into Colorado from the north - this is because Cameron Pass west of Ft. Collins is usually closed for the winter.

If you want to ski in/out of the condo, I would stay at Storm Meadows.

I would suggest going in late February. Steamboat is a great place for spring skiing.

Be sure to check out the hot water spring pool down town. Great place to relax after a day on the slopes.
