I think many people don't know where to stop. I heard on the radio, that an Australian santa company that supplies the malls their santas, told their santas not to say 'Ho, Ho, Ho', because it could be taken as insulting/denigrating to women.
Talk about taking PC too far !

Another example is talking about races/genders etcetera..

I have known TONS of awesome female athletes.. now for example, it would be completely ignorant to say a woman can't play football. But there's nothing wrong with saying that those big dudes (bigger than most of us men) benching 300 pounds, are more suited to knocking people over, than the average 5'4 woman ! Men are STATISTICALLY bigger.. That, is what people who go To Far, forget. Statistics. They don't lie. There is nothing wrong with citing statistics. They are objective.

See, I think this overally PC attitude stems from misconstruing what the implications of Equality are. Equality means we all have the RIGHT to get chosen for the figurative Team.. It does not mean that every individual is suited to play or get chosen. Equality means that we should be judged Independently.

I read an article by a black guy that had once got an IT job. He and his friend both had applied and been interviewed with the company. He was later upset, because he got wind that, he got the job over his white ex-classmate, who had had the same grades & qualifications, despite the fact that the interviewer (asian if it matters) didn't like the fact the black guy used some slang during the interview. The interviewer gave him the job nonetheless because he didn't want to conflict with being an Equal Opportunity Employer

There is nothing wrong with healthy competition ! So much of the school system would be NOTHING without it.. A 'c' wouldn't be an average grade if there weren't other students, right ? Valedictorian gives something for people to strive for!

Freedom of speech includes the freedom to do so poorly, like I've been doing. But in the media, freedom of speech is only repected/ allowed to a degree, after it's been so filtered that it loses a lot of substance.

There are different meanings to "politically correct". If you mean not giving honors or recognition such as eliminating awards such as valedictorian, then I agree completely, that is PC gone amuck. However, I think the trend is away from this and that some schools have re-instituted the old academic awards and class rankings.

If by PC you mean using a term such as "undocumented worker" instead of "illegal alien", then the trend has gone away from PC toward the slightly offensive, but easier to say illegal alien. If you mean using a term such as "visually impaired" instead of "blind" I think it depends. Some people are visually impaired, and others can't see at all. Again, I believe the push for these terms occurred years ago, and that it isn't getting any worse.

If by PC you mean avoiding racial epithets, even very mild ones, then I think this is staying the same. Most Americans disapprove of epithets, but in some circles, people use them all the time. It's just a matter of picking your friends, and eating crow if you occasionally put your foot in your mouth. We all do this.

Of course, it's never politically correct for a politician to use a racial slur, or even a stereotype, and this has been true ever since the Civil Rights era.

"Political Correctness" is fine when it involves frowning on offensive language and name calling. In fact that really is simple common courtesy rather an PC.
The extreme cases of so called PC, like the valedictorian situation and the little league stuff are extreme and rare, not occurances that are pervading our society. Best not to be swayed to far by the anecdotal arguments of people who have some sort of axe to grind and blame their problems on "political correctness."

Being PC is bunk and should be done away with. People need to get a sense of humor. People will always be offended by something someone says. The worse part is they choose which group is being incorrect. Peace

Political correctness is not a bad thing. Unfortunately anything overdone is as bad as something not done at all. In many cases, lately, we have seen political correctness to the extreme. Extremism of any sort is never a good thing.

I contribute Political Correctness to the eventual downfall of American Society. They took away valedictorian? When and where was this?

Don't forget about little league games where they do not keep score. The world is about winning and losing if you do not know what losing feels like then you won't try that hard to win.

who cares if someone is offended. They need to grow up and face the fact, its a cruel world. So suck it up and move on with your life.
