If you insist on living your life in the MTV dungeon, of course you'd be inclined to think that. However, you're wrong. Dig a little deeper.

I agree with you! I always say 'music today seems to have been dropped into some kind of toxic waste that has morphed the sound into something disgusting.' I don't mean to sound like an old fart because I'm not. But I hate what R&B has evolved into and the same goes for this so-called rock. I'm disappointed with the new sounds and I think hip-hop and rap sucks. Nothing there but "songs" about sex, prison, murder, money, treating women like whores, and phony-tough macho BS. I hate it!... Thanks to Freedom Of Speech we're free to trash anything we don't like and not care. A lot of brain-dead people sucking up that hip-hop.
The interesting part is that BLONDIE was the first person to put out a rap song. (Rapture)....What happened after that is just a mess in my opinion.

I guess it has just changed. But I think there're still a few quite good rock bands and artists...the good old rockers who survived like Bruce Sringsteen.Or Velvet Revolver which is made up from some huge rockers of the past.I would like to put here Bon Jovi too,but unfortunately they changed to this kinda country style.
Anyway,I still have to say that there was nothing better than the 80's and 90's rock, and there will never be better music than that.

Pop rock is still living and unfortunately well.
Punk rock died in the 80's, and had a small revival in the 90's, but that was screwed up because the most famous band of that era sold out quickly.

there's a lot of good new rock bands out there. Of course old rock such as Led Zeppelin will always remain the best, but bands like Velvet Revolver, Spoon, John Butler Trio, Radiohead, Rocco Deluca & The Burden, are all recent rock/indie bands. I agree with you, today the new pop and rap bullshit totally blankets everything else, so to find the good rock bands, you gotta dig deep and look hard.

lets face it, in the last several years rap has seen its popularity fall, and punk has given way to emo(not a big fan of emo) but it is becoming more popular. Me I find metal to be a great genre even though alot of people dont like it, I think eventuallt rock will outlive rap

I know...I miss it too :(
I guess some of it has to do with our changing culture. Rock music is largely white and Eurocentric, and our popular culture is becoming increasingly influenced by and geared toward African Americans and Latinos, so the music is reflecting that.
Rock is still out there....it's just no longer the prevailing, mainstream form of popular music.

There's still good Rock bands around but your not going to find them on the radio or MTV who are just a bunch of corporate whores anyway. You must get out there and dig to find that elusive great Rock of today.
itsxclaire,
Misery Signals is a Death Metal band, but a good one!
