I say Cashman from the Yankees is, signing long term contract w\ Rivera and Posada and no pitching (which is their problem) is just bad. The SF Giants GM is pretty awful too...

Picking the worst GM is not easy as it sound because there's a lot of factors on what makes the team (owners have there fair share of blame too), but if there is any worst GM today, then here are some that I would consider...

- Bill Bavasi, Seattle: The teams payroll is over $100 million for the first time in franchise history, yet they haven't seen the playoffs in years. Granted that they have a future in Ichiro and Felix Hernandez, but Bavasi hasn't done anything to improve the offense or pitching for that matter. Two of their highest paid players in Richie Sexson and Adrian Beltre have run past their prime. Jarrod Washburn hasn't justified his contract as the highest paid pitcher for the Mariners. The AL West is starting to get lopsided with the Angels dominating that division. Bavasi is on a short leash because he doesn't really have an "official" long-term GM contract (working on year-by-year basis), so he could be gone soon if the Mariners don't start competing.

- Mike Flanagan and Andy MacPhail, Baltimore: We thought two heads are better than one, but boy where the O's were wrong with that. Both don't have the official GM title but they share responsibility when it comes to baseball operation. Flanagan has been running the show but hasn't shown any results. There payroll has double from 72 million to 93 million in 2007, so I would call them a small-market team with a big payroll. Granted that there unfortunate to play in the same division as powerhouse Red Sox and Yankees, but the O's should be better than the Jays or the Rays. Yet they are the underacheivers in baseball with no future in sight.

-Brian Sabean, San Francisco: Barry Bonds is gone, so the $90 million in payroll should decrease. The only problem is that he has the money and nothing to spend. Outside of Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum, the Giants are baseball retirement house. Zito is currently the team highest paid player yet he's starting to look like an average left hander at best. The offense look old and weak with Bonds, but how worst can the Giants be w/o? The only thing the Giants need to do is redevelop their farm system if they want to start getting younger but I see no hope in this situation in a tough NL West division.

- Jim Hendry, Cubs: He has the team built for playoff contention but he's making Cubs fan suffer for another 100 years. Every year is there year to break the curse but they have fallen short of expectation. The offense looks great but the pitching staff that use to dominate is just another average rotation. He hasn't built a solid bullpen and the rotation looks faulty at best so if he doesn't improve on this team, then the curse shall be on him.

Its hard to be a great GM when you have a uber payroll to work with and a meddling owner that wants to spend it on unncessary parts that do nothing but clog up the roster.

I will say this about Cashman though, he doesn't trade away players that actually have value.

I'm going with Bavasi of Seattle. Signs poor contracts and makes foolish deals where he really gets nothing.

I'd agree with Cashman - if you're spending that much money you should be able to achieve success. With the largest payroll in baseball (by a margin of the entire payrolls of smaller teams), you should be failing to make it to the World Series 4 years in a row and failing to win it for 7 straight years.

Without a doubt it's Ned Colletti. The Dodgers have an enormous payroll, he's made some horrible decisions.

Why would anyone answer with "Theo Epstein"? He's the GM of a team that just won their 2nd World Series in 4 seasons. I guess Yankee fans take things very hard.

Theo Epstein is by far the worst. If it wasn't for him having Bill James as an assistant he would have been fired years ago and the Bosox would not have won both WS.
