They're considered caucasian - which is sometimes read as white. It's to do with the facial features rather than the colour. Do a google/wiki search on it.
Edit: why are all these native americans getting worked up about being refered to as indians/ telling us their colour? The question is about people from the indian subcontinent - the " / Pakistani" bit gives it away!!

Never heard of Indians/Pakistanis being considered as Caucasians. I doubt it. Native Americans are also non white; they are Native Americans. People often refer to Native Americans as Indians, this is a misunderstanding brought about by the famous explorer Chrisopher Columbus, who got credit for "discovering" America, a land already populated by Native Americans. CC was going for India, looking for a new trade route and got off course (not too good for a famous explorerer) and ended up on the shores of the USA...when the Native Americans came to greet him he thought he was in India and referred to them as Indians.

I am sure that there are some Light skinned Indians or Pakistani, but both are in the continent of Asia and therefore are Asian.

Yes, people of India, Pakistan, and the Middle Eastern countries are considered Caucasians. The term "white" is somewhat of a misnomer. Caucasians, or Indo-Europeans, share many physical characteristics but are all shades of color (except true white!). However, this way of putting people into racial groups is not used anymore in scientific fields. The categories are too broad and don't really serve any purpose. As people study history and work out how groups of people migrated and interacted, it is recognized that the people of these areas are similar in many ways. It really makes you think of how silly all these labels are. What is "White" or "Black" or "Asian" or "Hispanic"? Just confusion.

Russell Peters (Indian-Canadian comedian) calls them browns. Most Indians I know do not refer to themselves as white, so I guess they are just Indians.

That's not true. Actually, Indians are more likely to be similar to the Asian breed. They share similar physical characteristics and the like.

Indians and Pakistanis both are grouped racially as Caucasians. Believe it or not, skin color is not a major determinant.
