I am a freshman in high school so I wouldn't normally be asking a question about college but I need to. I have a 3.3 grade point average at the moment and it will probably be higher by the end of the semester. My father says that UC Davis won't except me without a 4.0. Is this true? Because I have no other ways of finding out and I really want to go to UC Davis and train to become a vet.

UC Davis is competitive -- but you don't quite need a 4.0. The average GPA for incoming students is 3.7 and average SAT scores are about 1700/2400.

What you need to worry about is rank in class. 95% of those accepted at Davis are in the top 10% of their classes. I believe that California guarantees a slot in SOME UC school if you graduate in the top 10%.

The minimum GPA you need to be ELIGIBLE (does not mean accepted) for any UC is a 3.0. The average GPA is about 3.8 at UC Davis.

Admissions to the UCs are not based solely on gpa. Instead they use a rubric and give you points based on what you've done. Some categories include gpa/sat, volunteer service, leadership positions, extra curricular activities, etc. So no, there will be many other factors besides your GPa.

Um, the minimum GPA you need for UC Davis is 2.8 according to this guide I have.

It's best to have at least a 3.5, however. You're only a freshman though and freshman grades are not considered during the admission process.

Just work hard your sophomore and junior year!

Good luck.
