That's not a great idea--for the kitty. Little guy will be way traumatized and if not accompanied by you will be tossed into the cargo hold or something. Food & water not guaranteed by harassed airline employees at this time of year.
Are you sure your friend wants the kitty?
If you are sending a purebred kitten that you purchased from a breeder, the problem is theirs.
My advice is don't. Been there.

Since most of the people on here seem to think you are joking, allow me to give you the PROPER way to so so.

1) Get 100 feet of thick kite string, set aside.
2)Get a Christmas card and fill it out to whomever it is going to, set aside.
3) Get a carrier pigeon, show him where your gift is going on a map,
4) Affix card to one leg of pigeon,
5) Put kitty in a box with food and water,
6)Tie one end of string to pigeon and FIRMLY tie other end to the box,
7) Say giddyup, wait thats for horses........Throw pigeon in the air, said pigeon will take care of the rest.

Toss it in a box with some food, ship it express and hope for the best. Keep in mind pets don't make good gifts. If you were shipping your kitty to me I would want it delivered in person thanks.

If at all possible, you don't. Cruelty to animals., unless you get a plane ticket and put the cat in your lap all the way.
Edit: I like sending it in a taxi better.

You could send it in a taxi, it might cost a lot though.
