I have recently come back from a disasterous teaching job in Tajikistan, before that I taught in Uganda and Uzbekistan (primary) and before that 2 years of secondary art.
All my confidence is gone and I can't even fill out the application forms and I think my career is over. I desperately need help as I'm totally alone and have no one who can give me advice. Please email if you can help, because I just don't know what else to do. I need someone who knows the system, about writing letters of application and all that stuff that just leaves me in floods of tears. I don't want my teaching to be over, but I just don't know how to help myself. mcintyre1964@yahoo.com

ok first of all its so tough to get back into the classroom after an emotional incident.
when you do get back in that classroom you have to be eager and cofindent about your subject mater and the way you handle kids.

I taught in england for several years , now in america and was head of a dept for a few years.

I think it is admirable that you want to continue teaching. after all you have invested a lot of emotions and time - not to say money into the field to get you where you are professionally.

here are some recommendations for you.-that you dont have to take.

* start small. is there a local community college that you could work at.
*get a portfolio together- picutres are iddeal of the work you have done- are you proud of the work- think up a list of positive words that decribe everythgin you have doen over the past few years- use that to inspire you- to use in you apps- to use in a phone interview.

*have you considered workign with adults?

*if teaching is the way to go for you in a secondary field- brush up on technology that has been used the past few years or a field of art that interests you. bring that as a professional growth when you go to the new school.

*have u considered a private school? a friend of mine had a real bad experience in a state school in history) - to see a huge man cry most days wasn't fun!
he moved to a private school and his life turned around:)

good luck!
