Sounds like the video driver has gone corrupt. To check this go to the Device Manager. Right click My Computer and click Properties. Now click the Hardware tab and then the Device Manager. In the Device Manager, check the "Video Adapter". If there is a yellow exclamation mark or question mark there then the driver is either corrupt or damaged. Try reinstalling it. You should be able to locate the driver on the CDs that came with your system. If you can't, then go to the manufactures web site. Do a search in Support for your system. Download the latest driver and install it. That should fix the problem.

couple of possible reasons: a) you are running in safe mode, check to see if it says safe mode anywhere on your screen. b) your display drivers somehow disappeared. GO to start, control panel, system, hardware, device manager and see if there are any yellow question marks on any of the devices. c) your resolution and colors changed (for whatever reason) You can check by right clicking on your desktop and clicking on settings. You should see screen resolution and color quality settings.

Suggest to reboot the computer. if this does not correct the problem, I would suggest to shut the laptop down ,remove power source(including battery) for one minute, then restart.
