Roe v. Wade is the most famous case.

However, Roe v. Wade is not a law and did not grant the right to abortion. In that case, the Supreme Court stuck down state and local laws that prohibited abortion. States can still pass laws banning abortion, but they would be subjected to review by the courts once someone files suit.

The South Dakota legislature passed an aboration ban law in 2006. Before the law was enacted, a state referendum defeated the issue and no abortion ban took effect.
