It's a bit French-fried for my tastes, but it *is* a classic. If you went with Chantal, it would be fine.
Chantelle, Shantel, Shantylle and so on, however, are decidedly downmarket.
Stick with the original.

I like the classic spelling. Oh when you spell it with an "sh" it's no longer Chantal; phonetically that is.

i absoloutly adore the name! i think it is very classy and i love that it is french. if i ever have a daughter i think i will name her Chantal, and i like the classic spelling that you used.

But if you like it, I would go with traditional spelling otherwise she's going to go through her whole life explaining how to spell it.
