Makes you think he could make a good deep run deep at Wimbledon with his serve alone if he got back into the best shape he could. It surprised me.

At the pro level, anyone can upset anyone at anytime...Canas, Gonzalez and Nalbanian also upset Roger Federer, but what make Roger great is his consistency over the long run. Just because Pete beat Roger one out of three time doesn't mean Pete have the stamina to come back. At Wimbledon he has to play two straight weeks and it's 3 out of 5, not 2 out of 3. If it is 3 out of 5 today Roger may come back because Pete at his age will be tired.

I don't think it was a shock. My dad predicted that because it was just an exhibition match, Federer would easily win the first match, give more effort for the same result in the second match and lose the third match to Sampras to make him look good. It was a set-up, just like most exhibition matches like these. It makes sense, too, right? I guess that loss helps to revive the popularity of tennis in America a bit.

I don't believe people give Sampras enough credit. He still has his awesome serve. His volleys are unbelivable. Whether or not Federer "let" Sampras win, nobody knows. But I think Sampras can easily be in the top 10, if not top 5, in the current tour. Great job Pete. I'm glad to see both men had fun on court :)

Sampras would have to play that way for 7 matches over 2 weeks. Possible, but not likely. 5 years ago he was losing in the second round at the All-England club.

I dont think federer let him win...but i do think that playing for an entire year and then facing his idol in an exhibition match did have a lot to do with it.

It is an exhibition and they are friends. It is comparable to the pathetic Miami Dolphins defeating the juggernaut New England Patriots in a pre-season game. As long as the checks clear and the fans had a good time, then the contest was a success.

Just goes to show how good Pete Sampras really is, compared to the rest of today's players versus Federer.

So he did but was it a revenge match and do you think that Sampras would be OK in a indoors masters against John Mcenroe?

For American men's tennis, that was pretty huge. Our boy Andy, can't seem to keep his head on straight when he plays Federer. Although this was only an exhibition it still was pretty cool. Pete must be wondering to himself also, about a possible comeback. He's already proved himself but you never know.

My goodness, it's a shocking news. Federer lost to retired Pete Sampras? Oh.... my God.

Wow,

It's hard to describe this in words, unbelievable thing

Not surprised. I think Federer does not take exhibition matches as seriously as tournament matches. When Roddick and Federer played an exhibition game earlier this year, Roddick won the game.
