The same thing happened to my laptop. i have a dell inspiron B130 (yeah, i know its cheap) and about a month after i bought it last year, everything got a bit slower.
it was never that fast, but it also hasnt gotten much slower since then.
here's what i did that bumped its speed up a bit:
-clean up any unused desktop shortcuts/folders/files
-delete any old files that you may have lying around (school documents, old emails, old porn [=
-instead of just "deleting" everything, when it goes to the recycle bin, right click and then click on "Shred Contents" because, usually when you "empty" the bin, it just disperses your files, but it still takes up some memory, plus, supernerds can retrieve the files. when you SHRED CONTENTS, it completely wipes out everything
-also, delete the cookies, internet history, etc. from the Tools menu in your internet browser
this should get it going a bit faster! good luck =]
