Thing is, i think every national team will be hyped up by their domestic media because the set up with their countries FA is money. Hence, they need people taking an interest and thus coming to matches because this is what gets them money. England have a good side - definately top 10 in the world - but i think poor management, weak directorship in the fa and the players obsession with club football (which is more lucrative, more exciting and more competitive) coupled with the pressure from their clubs not to injure themselves (so they aren't as competitive when they play) has all seriously harmed the set up and success of the english national side as has the 'foreign invasion' and the conflict of interest between having the best domestic league in the world - it seriously and detrimentally affects the national side. I can't see england doing too well at the world cup qualifiers (too strong a groups) which is probably why none of the best managers want the job - why board a sinking ship? This was predicted to happen and it could be the beginning of the rot. And people like Capello just sound like they are after the cash now that they are coming to the ends of their careers. Who cares if you completely fail with the english squad if you can make a couple of million out of it? Talk about a runaway gravy train...

England were awful throughout the qualifiers.
the Premiership has too many foreign players to encourage home-grown talent and the current national team is absolute proof.
the managers can be at fault with tactics and selections but cannot simply create good players.
we had a weak defence, lack of creativity and complete lack of effort in the final game.
i think that whoever replaces McClaren is a brave man. the fans seem to think that because we invented the game we have an automatic right to be in the top ten ranking. this is never going to happen with the lack of talent and experience. even people like Gerrard, who rarely stops trying, could not stop the team from finally failing in front of the nation.
if you look at the last few tournaments it is painfully obvious that progress was only made through luck and chance (and hanging on by the fingernails to win on penalties) rather than having a world class team.

You are right . In the whole history of football England have only ever won one major trophy and that was in 1966 when they had home advantage.
Many other countries have done much better but England fans still expect their team to do well.
It's unrealistic
