Well you need to prove you are 18 to sign a contract or do any professional work unless your parents sign for you.

You need it for any sort of paid work, because you need a legitimate Social Security number. You'd also need it for a passport.

If you don't have a copy of yours, you can get it from the State Health Depart in the state where you were born.
