I live in the USA, but I don't think that everybody wants to live here. I, myself don't even truly want to live here. Austrailia would be so much better of a place to live....maybe that's also just because I live in Michigan where it gets very cold and I hate cold weather.

I have heard of this statement before by people, so don't think I'm hating on you or anything. I'm just like you, I don't really understand it either, although I've lived here in the USA my entire life and have only heard this statement like 3 times tops (and it was by people who live here, but don't really know what they're talking about - in my oppinion). The USA is like any other place: it has it's ups, and it has it's downs.

You can ask this question and make this statement freely without reprisals, can you say that about the rest of the world?
Is the USA better then the rest of the world? It's has a place. A place where we play world cop, a place where 35% of the food source is grown, a place where anyone can make a living here, practice any religion they choose or not to practice at all. This is a country asked by most of the world to help them in a time of need.....who do we ask? What country comes to our needs, when do we get support from the rest of the world? We are conceded and proud, charisable and protective, stubrion and outgoing! You are right about one thing, does the rest of the world like Americans, no not in the least.....Now ask yourself this question.....do we care.......NO! But even in that case where a country does not like us we would still go to that countries aide if need be!!!!
Better....NO....DIFFERENT from the rest...... YES without a second thought!

Why do other countries think that we American's think we're the best?

That would be like ALL females are terrible drivers, or ALL males are cheaters, etc. You can't generalize people. There are people from other countries that think their country is the best. So why is it wrong for an American to feel that way.

I personally believe that ALL men are equal and we should all care about one another, regardless of what country we live in. However, there's nothing wrong with having a little bit of pride in something you're a part of.

And by the way.....we're not as disliked as you may think we are either. It all goes according to what social group you're in when you hear others opinions. Plus, a lot of people feel pressured to go along with the crowd when it's not truly their opinion.

It fascinates me that this is a question that comes up time and time again. Especially when I travel overseas. Who says we think we're the best. Citizens of other countries. What do you expect us to say we are the worse. Most people of any given nation proclaim their nation to be great. It called national pride. Our country has problems. Yes. Every country around the world has it's problems. We are not liked --rightly or wrongly by many, but name one country anywhere that is liked by all. We have a lot of work to do if we want to improve our country and its reputation, but which country couldn't use some improvement.

No one thinks everyone wants to move here, but you must admit that a lot of people do otherwise we would not having the immigration debates we are currently having.

The thing is though most of us don't think we are liked. Most of us don't care either, because you can't be liked by everyone you can only do the best you can with what you know and have.

Please don't judge us because of the actions and words of our president. I love being an American. This is the best country for me. It doesn't make it the best for everybody, nor would I sat it is the best in the world. I wish that people everywhere would not judge an entire population on the viewpoint of its leader. There are some places where the leader is a terrible person, but that doesn't make all the people terrible. All I can hope for is that you stop and think before you make snap judgments about an entire population again. You may be wrong.

Think of our history. We are natural born patriotics, no we arent the best but we have came a long way to grab the title. The US has a hate love relationship with the rest of the world. Look at WWII. We tried to isolate ourselfs with the worlds problems and guess what? People were begging for us to aid. The US is a great country to live in, even people who live here and talk bad about it wouldnt live anywhere else.

Because Americans have been raised to believe they're the best, and truthfully I see nothing wrong with that. It is called TAKING PRIDE in yourself.

The only time this is wrong, is when a country proclaims their greatness AT THE EXPENSE OF others.

BTW, that's what YOU'RE doing.

In the grand scheme of things, regardless of nationality or ethnicity, we are all HUMAN BEINGS, and in the end, none of us are that different from one-another.

What I see a lot of non-Americans doing is judging other countries by their government's policies, and at least 50% (if not more of us) are NOTHING like the present Executive Branch of our government.

Just ask yourself this question: Do you agree with your government and the way they're running your country? Chances are you may not necessarily be doing so. The governed aren't necessarily at fault, especially those who didn't vote for the government in power to start with. In the case of this administration, the election was actually stolen from the American people.

Anyone who may be inclined to criticize Americans, should instead take a good look at themselves before doing so, because in the end, you're not that different from us.

as a U.S. citizen (bord and raised), I would agree with you. I like the U.S., but I don't think we're the best. I have been told by friends and colleagues abroad that in many countries Americans themselves are warmly received by local people even though the country itself and the U.S. government are seen with disfavour. I have been asking myself for the last couple years whether I'll be able to live in the U.S. for the rest of my life, or whether I will make the decision to move abroad. (As you can see, I even sometimes use British spellings...)
There are probably numerous reasons we sometimes subconsciously (or consciously) think we're the best. I think part of the American psyche has to do with the fact that we're such a young country - not yet two and a half centuries as an established nation compared to the thousands of years that some countries have been building culture and identity. It makes us seem like a young, upstart, rebellious teenager in global eyes, even if we are a "respectable teenager." We have a typically high quality of living, an exalted view of humanity and the individual, and policies that aim to treat people and organizations of people with some base level of respect and dignity, not to mention power and wealth. We have a good-looking resume, even if it is marred in places or has some ugly black spots.

So I agree with you. There are things I like about the U.S., but I don't think we're the best.

Who says we are the best?
Or are you presuming to know what we think? I only ask this because you said ,"we seem to think".
It might have been better if you had asked ..."do we think we are the best?"
We americans might not get so defensive with a question that is not so aggressive .

To answer the question I think you would like answered...I personally do not think we are the best.
No one is.
There are alot of things wrong with this and every other country in the world.
Would I choose to live anywhere else? NO!
I enjoy many things in this country that you will not find anywhere else.
While I do not claim we are the best, I do love this country and personally I don't care if anyone else likes us or not.
If you don't like America...leave.
And please do not presume to know what I think.
You don't know me and obviously you don't know my country.

In case you didn't know, Americans are a mix of many different cultures and peoples. For example, an American is not a German only, or a French only, or a Mexican only, we are descendents of a new generation of peoples. I don't think the average American thinks he or she is better than other nationalities, however, I believe that other nationalities view us that way because of America being the superpower of the world.
